The Lycoming College Tour Choir is a college choir that performs regularly in the United States. The choir is based at Lycoming College, which is a four-year private college in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, USA.
The Tour Choir is a ensemble of approximately 30-40 students who are selected by audition each autumn. Traditionally, the annual tour schedule includes weekend tours and a longer concert tour over spring break. Every three or four years, the Tour Choir conducts a two-week tour abroad in May. The Tour Choir also performs a "Homecoming Concert" at Lycoming College after its spring break tour, as well as appears during the Graduation Concert.
Like the other Lycoming choirs, members of the Tour Choir are students from every academic field and major. Members are chosen for their abilities to be cooperative and dedicated as much as for their musical talents.
The Tour Choir has a long history of quality performances throughout the United States and the world. Since the Lycoming College Choir's inception in 1947, the Tour Choir has presented concerts in every state east of the Mississippi River. Recent tours have visited New England, Chicago and the midwest, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, North and South Carolina, California, and Canada.
Over the years, the choir has performed multiple international tours, including two visits each to England, Spain, and Puerto Rico. Between 1990 and 2007, the choir visited central Europe five times, performing concerts in Germany, Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. Recent international tours have included two-week trips to Argentina in 2010 and China in 2016. The Tour Choir will visit France for the first time in May 2019.
Recent tours have also included visits and collaborations with high school and volunteer choruses in addition to the Tour Choir's regular performing schedule. This type of educational outreach is central to the choir's goal of creating a greater sense of community among all levels of music education.
